The Grand (unofficial) Opening!

Well today we had our first service... and it went really well! We had 14 people out and 6 saved, which was awewome! And that was everyone excluding our family, the interpreter and one other guy who are already saved! So really we could say that everyone was saved! :) The song service was rather interesting sometimes because I am playing the guitar, and hit a few wrong notes... but oh well! It was interesting listening to a sermon where every sentence is interpreted into another language... I have never done that before. But our interpreter did very well, considering that he only got saved a couple of days ago and he has never been to church before! We are looking forward to tonight's service to see who else God will bring out! Pray for us!

This week has been pretty interesting! It has rained ALOT... and we discovered that our house is not really waterproof! The water came through the roof in the garage... it actually pushed out the plaster and made holes!!... and also in the laundry as well. Then it came under the back door in the kitchen and flooded it... mum was standing there with a broom trying to keep the water out! Towels proved useless... they just got soaked and then the water came back in! The street turned into a lake... you could not even tell where the actual road was. It was about a foot deep and running pretty fast. And it is the dry season! In the wet we may have build an ark!

We had our first Tetun lesson yesterday morning. A lady named Marty (who was one of the people that got saved this morning) works at a place that teaches people English, so Dad asked her if she could teach us Tetun. She speaks English pretty well. We spent two hours learning about nouns and how to ask what something is, and people and how to ask who they are (eg who is this? - my younger brother etc). It was pretty fun. Our house is now full of little labels of the nouns we have learnt - they are stuck on the walls, window, floor, pillows, cups, shoes, bags, the phone, and lots of other things! It is a pretty easy language to learn (so far!) because the letter pretty much sound the same in every word, and you pronounce each noun - not like English where 'said' and 'rain' have the same vowels but sound different. So we will see... maybe by the time I leave I will be fluent!

We finally have fans in our house... they were supposed to go in the week after we moved in, and now we have been here for six weeks! It makes a big difference - so much cooler! Its funny though... in the kitchen and Dads office the light is right next to the fan, so at night when the fan is on it looks like we are having a disco while we cook dinner! It gives you a headache after awhile though...

I drove for the first time today... went down the bakery to get some bread for lunch. It wasnt that scary... though I did have a bit of a close call with a guy on a motorbike... he was moving over and nearly ran into our side (Hayden reckons it was my fault but it SO wasn't) but apart from that it was all good! The method of letting people know that you are coming up beside them here is the horn... which is broken in the car we are using, so we have to be a bit careful! But hopefully we get our new car soon!
